Bliography
This site began as lesson notes that I prepared for classes that I thought at Church. Because they were never intended to be academic work, in many places there are only sporadic and incomplete references although I am working to remidy that. In the newer material and the material developed specifically for this site I have taken better care reference things.
There is a balance between the rigorous citation practice of an academic work and the informal work that is represented by the bulk of this site. In many cases quotations from other works are still not identified but in most cases the sources are given at the bottom of the page. Hopefully these are complete enough to help those who want to delve further into matters of faith.

Key to Bibles used and Bible Translations:
Most Bible citations are linked or copied from www.biblegateway.com. The New International Version (NIV) is generally used for Biblical citations in older parts of the site with ESV being more prevalent in the newer material. Other translations are identified as follows:
CEV Contemporary English Version. First published American Bible Society's in 1995. The text is easily read by grade schoolers, second language readers, and those who prefer the more contemporized form. The CEV is not a paraphrase. It is an accurate and faithful translation of the original manuscripts. A searchable version is at http://search.americanbible.org/
ESV The English Standard Version is an evangelical revision of the Revised Standard Version that corrects the non-Christian interpretations of the RSV in the Old Testament and improves the accuracy throughout with more literal renderings. It also updates the language somewhat. The makers of this version undertook the work with the idea that there was a need for an evangelical version that was more literal than the New International Version but more idiomatic than the New American Standard Bible. (http://www.bible-researcher.com/esv.html)
JPS Jewish Publication Society, Tanakh Translation. 1985, 1999. from The Jewish Study Bible. New York: Oxford University Press, 2004.
KJV The Authorizedor King James Version is an English translation of the Christian Bible by the Church of England begun in 1604 and first published in 1611. The New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) series of the Greek texts. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Hebrew text, while the Apocrypha was translated from the Greek Septuagint (LXX). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_James_Version)

NOG The Names of God Bible 2011 by Baker Publishing Group. While most translations obscure the names and titles of God by replacing them with just a few English words such as God, Lord, or LORD, The Names of God Bible uses transliterations of ancient names—such as Yahweh, El Shadday, El Elyon, and Adonay—to help the reader better understand the rich meaning of God's names that are found in the original Hebrew and Aramaic text.

RSV Revised Standard Version is a revision of the American Standard Version (ASV) authorized by the copyright holder, the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. It was intended to be a readable and literally accurate modern English translation, not only to create a clearer version of the Bible for the English-speaking church but also to "preserve all that is best in the English Bible as it has been known and used through the centuries" and "to put the message of the Bible in simple, enduring words that are worthy to stand in the great Tyndale-King James tradition.
